Sarah Healy added another magnificent run to a breakthrough season this Sunday (Sept. 10) as she took second place in New York's famous Fifth Avenue Mile.
Healy ran 4:20.0 on a slippery course, second only to Britain's Jemma Reekie, who ran 4:19.4.
Had Healy won she would've been only the second Irish woman and third Irish athlete to win the event in its 42-year history, after Eamonn Coghlan in 1985 and Sinead Delahunty in 1995.
The achievement closes out a season that included a European U23 1500m silver (meaning a 1-2 for Ireland as Sophie O'Sullivan won gold) and a new national U23 1500m record of 3:59.68 — making Healy only the third Irish woman to go sub-four over 1500m.
Meanwhile Sharlene Mawdsley set a new 400m PB of 51.09 to win bronze behind Candice McLeod (50.94) and Laviai Nielsen (50.93) at a meet in Zagreb, Croatia.
