Rhasidat Adeleke clocked 10.84 to win the 100m at the Texas Invitational in Austin Saturday — the fastest time ever for an Irish female athlete, though it won't be an official record with 3.5 metres/second wind assistance (the limit is 2.0).
21-year-old Adeleke was significantly ahead of the talented field: American Celera Barnes ran 10.94, 2019 200m world champion Dina Asher-Smith ran 11.10, and current 60m world indoor champion Julien Alfred ran 11.15.
The Irish record was set by Sarah Lavin last year at 11.27.
For context - Rhasidat Adeleke’s main event is the 400M and then the 200M… but evidently she’s pretty quick in the 100M as well 🤯 To beat the likes of Celera Barnes (PB 10.94),Dina Asher Smith (PB 10.83) and Julien Alfred (PB 10.81) is ridiculously impressive. 👏🏽 pic.twitter.com/P0o32rfF9r

Adeleke's official PB is 11.31.
She will return to her main event, the 400m, next weekend as part of Ireland's mixed and women's 4x400 teams at the World Relays, where finishing in the top 14 teams will mean Olympic qualification for Ireland.
