Rhasidat Adeleke has broken the Irish indoor 60M record with a new time of 7.17 seconds, which she clocked at the NCAA Championships in Alabama. Currently on scholarship at the University of Texas, Adeleke has qualified for the sprint final - making her the first ever Irish athlete to ever qualify for an NCAA Division 1 indoor sprint final.
The 60m indoor Irish record has been hotly contested over the last six weeks with Molly Scott and Rhasidat Adeleke lowering the standard from 7.27 to now 7.17.
Quite the year for Irish 60m sprinting. Before this year, the NR stood at 7.27.
That time has been equalled or bettered EIGHT times in the past six weeks:
7.27 Molly Scott
7.25 Scott
7.25 Scott
7.24 Scott
7.23 Scott
7.21 Rhasidat Adeleke
7.19 Scott
7.17 Adeleke— Jon Mulkeen (@Statman_Jon) March 12, 2022
Adeleke's time better's the mark set by Molly Scott at the end of February where she ran 7.19 to win the National Indoor Senior Championships. Scott will race at the World Indoor Championships this coming week.
Adeleke's time moves her up to 26 in the World Rankings - the second youngest athlete in the top 26. She will race in the 60M and 200M final tonight after running 23.06 in the 200M to qualify for the final.
Rhasidat Adeleke yet again broke TWO National indoor records as she ran 7.21 (60M) and 22.85 (200M) to take the number one spot on the All-Time Irish list. 🔥
That is now THREE All-Time Irish records in the space of a few weeks across three different distances. Remarkable. 🤯 pic.twitter.com/6PCfcIgVXC— Her Sport (@HerSportDotIE) February 6, 2022
