Double U20 European 100M and 200M champion, Rhasidat Adekele (Tallaght AC), has smashed the Irish 200m record with a world class time of 22.59s while representing Texas University at the Texas A&M vs Texas Dual Meet at the weekend.
Adeleke improved her own Irish National record which stood at 22.90 - set last summer, when completing the sprint double at the European Under-20 Championships in Estonia. The time of 22.90 put her 77th in last year's end-of-season world rankings. Her new time would rank her her 35th in the 2021 rankings but she is currently 3rd on the world rankings with the new outdoor season just under way.
The performance, which would ultimately see Adeleke finish in second place, also secured the World Championships and European Championships qualification standards for Eugene and Munich respectively.
It continues a remarkable start to 2022 for the 19-year-old, who has already broken the Irish 60m (7.17PB) and 200m (22.85a) indoor records in recent months.
The Tallaght AC star also boasts a 36.87 for 300m indoors (January 16th 2022), which was the fastest time ever by an Irishwoman over the distance indoors, and also the fastest-ever by a European teenager.

A few days prior to her National record, Adeleke made history with the University of Texas as herself and her teammates set the second-fastest time ever recorded in NCAA history in the 4x400m relay. The team of Kennedy Simon, Rhasidat Adeleke, Julien Alfred and Stacey Ann Williams posted the winning time of 3:22.94 in the Sanya Richards-Ross 4x400 relay. Adeleke ran a remarkable 50.5 split
