Nadia Power enjoyed a fine end to her season with a brilliant first place finish in the 800m, at the World Athletics Continental Tour in Zagreb.

Power ran an impressive time of 2:02.08, her second fastest in her career and more than half a second to spare over Sweden's Hanna Hermansson in second place.

Only four Irish women have run faster in the last five years – this includes Power herself who ran a new personal best and new Irish U-23 record in Italy last week.

It’s been nothing short of a remarkable eight days for Power, who has run three of the fastest times of her career in this short space of time.

Last week, the 2019 European Under-23 Championships bronze medallist, broke Aoife Byrne’s 19-year old record to set a new U-23 Irish 800m record – this also put her sixth on the all-time Irish list. A few days later, Power followed this up with what is now her third fastest time of her career as she ran 2:02.12 at the PTS Meeting in Samorin, Slovakia.

In what has been a challenging season for so many athletes due to the disruptions, Power will be buoyed by her fine form. A testament to the DCU student’s hard graft during the lockdown period.
