Day 2 of the European Games 2023 kicked off this morning at the Silesian Stadium in Poland.
Team Ireland's athletics athletes participated in numerous track and field events, set on gaining enough points to overtake Austria's lead in the team rankings.
Sarah Lavin gave Ireland a good start after ending in first place in the 100m Heat A hurdles with a fantastic PB of 12.83.

In Heat A of the 800m, Louise Shannahan gave a brilliant performance, placing first with a time of 2:03.39. Kelly McGrory also placed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.08.

Ellie McCartney earned another win for Ireland in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.20m. Saragh Buggy also earned a well deserved third place in the triple jump.
In the 4 x 100m relay, Ireland managed to recover from a few handover fumbles and placed second with a time of 44.80 - the relay team memebers were Sarah Leahy, Mollie O'Reilly, Joan Healy and Adeyemi Talabi.
The successful performances of today saw Ireland end in first place in the team rankings, just seven points (327) ahead of Austria (320). Israel currently sits in third place with 290 points.
