Elizabeth Ndudi (Dundrum South Dublin AC) broke the National Senior Long Jump record Saturday evening (April 13th) in Illinois.
Competing at the Gary Wieneke Memorial, Ndudi was representing the University of Illinois where she is currently studying business.
The European U20 champion jumped a best of 6.68m in the first round and showed impressive consistency jumping 6.67m later in the competition.
That marks adds six centimetres to the previous record that had been held by Ferrybank AC’s Kelly Proper since 2010 and also improves the 19-year-old’s own personal best that she set to win that memorable European U20 gold last August in Jerusalem by 12cm.
Her teammate Tacoria Humphrey of the United States won the evening’s competition with a best of 6.73m, while the talented Irish teenager finished second.
Ndudi is now being coached during her time at university by Petros Kyprianou from Cyprus who has guided several athletes to the Olympic Games.
Ndudi’s main target for this outdoor season will be the World U20 Championships which will take place in Lima, Peru at the end of August.
