The equestrian world has been left stunned by the news that British horse rider Georgie Campbell has died following a fall at an event in Devon on Sunday.
The 37 year old was competing on the fourth and final day of the Bicton International Horse Trials when the incident happened.
Horse and Hound are reporting that she was riding her horse Global Ques when the pair fell into water at a fence on the cross-country course.

British Eventing, the associated governing body confirmed in a statement that despite the best efforts of medical professionals who arrived swiftly to the scene Georgie Campbell sadly passed away.
“It is with deepest regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell (GBR) suffered a fatal accident whilst competing at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England on Sunday 26 May 2024,” the statement read.
“Medical professionals attended immediately following her fall at fence 5b however, unfortunately, she could not be saved,” they added.
“To respect the family’s privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be shared.”
According to a spokesperson, the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust was called to the accident, which occurred near Budleigh Salterton, at 3.05pm on Sunday.
The horse is said to be uninjured, and, after assessment from on site vets, was capable of walking back to the stable after the tragedy.
Campbell herself had competed in more than 200 events since she began riding, winning on six occasions.
She followed in the footsteps of her mother Debbie who is a former GB endurance rider, and trialled showing riding at the top level before switching to eventing.
Campbell married to New Zealand event rider Jesse Campbell back in December 2020.
