There were emotional scenes at the Bohemians Vs Palestine historic friendly in Dalymount Park last night, as the two sides came together through football, but what they were highlighting had much more to do than kicking a ball.
The game, which ultimately finished 2-1 to the visitors, provided an opportunity for the people of Ireland to demonstrate their solidarity with Palestine, on a day of utmost importance to them, the 76th anniversary of Nakba.
In a statement on their website, League of Ireland side Bohemians touched on how they believed it would serve as an opportunity to call attention to “the human rights violations in occupied Palestine”, and given the atmosphere at the ground filled with 4,290 people, there’s no doubt that it did.
Onlookers included the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins, politicians and various media and sporting personalities alike, on what was a day that will live long in the memory for all.
Here it is, a recap of the night, in pictures.
