Rhasidat Adeleke clocked 10.84 to win the 100m at the Texas Invitational in Austin Saturday — the fastest time ever for an Irish female athlete, though it won’t be an official record with 3.5 metres/second wind assistance (the limit is 2.0).
21-year-old Adeleke was significantly ahead of the talented field: American Celera Barnes ran 10.94, 2019 200m world champion Dina Asher-Smith ran 11.10, and current 60m world indoor champion Julien Alfred ran 11.15.
The Irish record was set by Sarah Lavin last year at 11.27.
For context – Rhasidat Adeleke’s main event is the 400M and then the 200M… but evidently she’s pretty quick in the 100M as well 🤯 To beat the likes of Celera Barnes (PB 10.94),Dina Asher Smith (PB 10.83) and Julien Alfred (PB 10.81) is ridiculously impressive. 👏🏽 pic.twitter.com/P0o32rfF9r

Adeleke’s official PB is 11.31.
She will return to her main event, the 400m, next weekend as part of Ireland’s mixed and women’s 4×400 teams at the World Relays, where finishing in the top 14 teams will mean Olympic qualification for Ireland.
