Sarah Healy smashes Irish indoor 1500m record in France

Sarah Healy (U.C.D. A.C.) broke the Irish senior indoor 1500m record Saturday night.

Competing at the World Indoor Tour Gold meet in Lievin, France, Healy clocked an impressive time of 4.03.83 to finish fifth.

That time takes over two seconds off the previous record held by Ciara Mageean (City of Lisburn A.C.) since January 2020.

The race was won by Freweyni Hailu of Ethiopia in 3.57.24.

Healy’s latest record comes just one week since she broke Mary Cullen’s national senior indoor record over 3000m clocking 8.36.06 in Metz.

Just three days prior to her 23rd birthday, Healy, who is now based in Wigan and being coached by Trevor Painter and Jenny Meadows, will look to continue her strong form in the next few weeks as she looks forward to a massive 2024.
