Eve McMahon Clinches World U21 Championship In Morocco

Howth Yacht Club’s Eve McMahon has emerged as the victor in the world U21 championship for her ILCA6 Olympic class in Tangiers, Morocco.

Throughout six days of challenging races, the Paris 2024 hopeful displayed remarkable composure, coming in 14 points lower than her closest rival.

On the event’s final day, she navigated her way from a mid-fleet start to a commendable third place just before crossing the finish line. Even a capsize threatened her aspirations, but McMahon recovered and secured an eighth-place finish, sealing her claim to the championship title.

Irish Sailing Head Coach Rory Fitzpatrick praised McMahon’s performance: “I am very happy with how Eve approached the event. She followed good processes and rolled with the punches to be consistent race by race at this event. This made it hard for other contenders to challenge the title towards the end.”

The regatta presented sailors with a wide range of challenging conditions throughout the week, making it a true test of their sailing.
