The Spanish and Switzerland’s national teams rallied together by displaying a banner in support of Jenni Hermoso before the start of their Nations League clash on 26 September.
This marks the second consecutive match in which the Spanish team conveyed a powerful social message. The situation arose after Rubiales was embroiled in a scandal following the Women’s World Cup 2023 medal ceremony, where he kissed Hermoso. The incident led to Rubiales stepping down as RFEF president.
The players had white tape on their wrists, one with Hermoso’s number 10, displaying the message “It’s over. Our fight is the global fight” on the banner. Players in the starting XI also raised their fists to show the message during the team photo ahead of the match.

Newly appointed head coach Montse Tome had assembled a squad primarily composed of players who had won the World Cup. Numerous players had initially boycotted the national team but agreed to play after a deal was reached with the federation and government mediators for substantial reforms within the organization.
Jenni Hermoso was also notably absent from the squad, which in response to this, coach Montse Tome said, “We stand with Jenni. We believe that the best way to protect her is like this, but we are counting on Jenni.”
As the saga continues, the public has yet to see whether or not Jenni Hermoso will be part of the squad for the upcoming camp in October, leading up to Spain’s Nations League clash against Italy.
