Serrano-Ramos’ Women’s Title Bout Set For 12 Three- Minute Rounds

Amanda Serrano’s defence of her WBO, WBA and IBF world featherweight titles against Danila Ramos will be determined in 12 three-minute rounds.

This will be a historic change in women’s boxing as the normal boxing match for women consists of 10 two-minute rounds. This match will follow the men’s rules.

Puerto Rican world champion Amanda Serrano will face Brazilian boxer Danila Ramos in the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida on Friday, 27 October. It will be the first female title match since 2007 to last as long as the men’s match.

“Together, on Friday, October 27, we will make history and prove to the world once again how incredible women’s boxing is and that we are just as tough, dynamic and capable as any man in the ring, if not more so. This is a fight for women everywhere to be treated the same as their male counterparts” Serrano publicly stated.

The number of rounds and the length of rounds for championship fights have been issues in women’s boxing for years. This has been brought up by many of the top fighters in the sport. When Serrano was defeated by Katie Taylor in 2022 in the biggest event in women’s boxing history, she lobbied for three minute rounds but mentioned it publicly only after  contracts had been signed.

The reduced time is a factor in relatively fewer stoppage and knockout victories for women with more matches being decided by judges’ scorecards.

“Fighting Amanda Serrano for 12 three minute rounds for a unified championship is set to break the barriers that we women have been looking to do for many years”. Ramos expressed in a statement. “We will go down in history and in the books”.
