Fifth Place For McSharry in World Final

Mona McSharry swam 1:06.07 in the Breaststroke final to finish fifth in the world yesterday, July 24.

McSharry recently broke the Irish Record for the 100m Breaststroke heading into the semi-finals, clinching an olympic qualification, with a time of 1:05.55.

Monday, July 23, she swam her second fastest time, 1:05.96, in the semi-final, to advance herself to the final today.

The twenty-two year old put herself in medal contending position. McSharry swam a strong race, being in 2nd place until the last 50 meters, and placed 5th. She was .13 seconds behind bronze.

McSharry is set to compete again on Thursday, July 27, day 2 in the 200m breaststroke and on day 8 in the 4×100 medley relay.
