UConn Women’s Basketball Adds Irish Forward Gandy Malou-Mamel To Class Of 2025

Ireland 6-foot-5 forward Gandy Malou-Mamel announced that she will be joining the UConn women’s basketball program for the Class of 2025.

Malou-Mamel took to social media to express her excitement: “Thank you to Coach Auriemma and the staff of UConn for seeing my potential and presenting me with this opportunity,” Malou-Mamel said.

“Ten months ago, the idea of playing basketball at UConn felt unimaginable. I took the risk of leaving behind my life in Ireland last August, knowing that the opportunities presented would change my family’s life forever.

“…With the unconditional love and faith in me from my Mom, Dad younger brother and sister, I am excited to compete alongside my future teammates at UConn. Go Huskies!”

Malou-Mamel left Ireland to play for Gill St. Bernard’s School in New Jersey where she’s been playing for the NJ Gemz AAU program and has also suited up for the Irish U17 National Team. She is currently unranked by ESPN.

In her last season in Ireland, she was a key member of  Limerick Celtics club and helped see the Limerick Celtics win the 18u National Cup Final.

UConn has been actively recruiting international talent, as seen with the presence of six international players on the roster last season. This trend continues with the addition of Malou-Mamel, who joins five-star guard Kelis Fisher in the 2025 class.
