Claire O’Riordan Set To Join Barrett At Standard Liege

Republic of Ireland defender Claire O’Riordan has recently made a move to Belgian club Standard Liege, following in the footsteps of fellow Irish player Amber Barrett.

The 28-year-old Limerick native departed Celtic earlier this month after making a significant impact, including scoring, in their Scottish Cup final victory over Rangers.

O’Riordan is currently in Brisbane, preparing for the World Cup, having earned her place in Vera Pauw’s squad with an impressive performance in the friendly match against Zambia three weeks ago.

Previously, O’Riordan spent four years in Germany with MSV Duisburg, joining them after her time with Wexford Youths.

Striker Amber Barrett, who is also in Vera Pauw’s World Cup squad, joined Standard Liege in June after an unsuccessful spell at Turbine Potsdam – a team that was relegated from the German top flight last season.

Standard Liege, the reigning Belgian Women’s Cup champions, finished third in the league.
