Strong Start For Team Ireland At U/23 European Athletics Championships

A team of 32 athletes will compete at the 2023 European U23 Championships in Espoo, Finland, from today until 16 July.

The competition is a key championship on the athlete pathway and serves as a final launching pad into full senior championship competition.

Ten of Ireland’s athletes are making their debuts today, starting with Adeyemi Talabi (Longford AC) this morning. A brilliant effort from Talabi saw her end in 5th place in her 100m heat with a time of 11.95. Talabi unfortunately won’t progress to the semi-finals.

Nicola Tuthill took automatic qualification to the hammer throw final after her first attempt throw of 66.23m (UCD AC) secured her spot in first place and earned her automatic qualification. Tuthill will be throwing in the final at 5.45pm (Irish time) on Friday, 14 July.

Ava O’Connor will be running in the 3000m steeplechase this evening at 19.30 while Jane Buckley will be running in the 5000m final at 20.35pm.
