Ireland’s Mona McSharry’s time of 1:06.56 was good enough to win her bronze in the 100m breaststroke final at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome, Italy.

First place went to the Netherlands’ Tes Schouten (1:06.06), who came in just 3 hundredths of a second ahead of Japan’s Reona Aoki.
Three others swam below 1:07: Italians Arianna Castiglioni (1:06.76) and Martina Carraro (1:06.86) in fourth and fifth place, and Olympic champion Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania won the B-final in 1:06.90.
McSharry is continuing her stellar season after setting a new national record of 1:06.04 in May.
The World Aquatics Championships begin next month, hosted this year in Fukuoka, Japan. McSharry has already secured her spot with the Irish swimmers heading over, but for many swimmers Sette Colli is the last chance to qualify; Castiglioni’s time is likely good enough to book her slot.
Sette Colli continues through Saturday and Sunday. Heats took place at 9 AM Irish time this morning (June 24), and finals will take place at 5pm.
McSharry won her heat in the 50m breaststroke in 30.43 and will progress to the final.
