Katie Taylor V Chantelle Cameron Rematch Set For Dublin In November

Katie Taylor will have a rematch against Chantelle Cameron in November, according to Eddie Hearn – both fighters’ promoter. The anticipated bout is likely to take place at Dublin’s 3Arena on either November 4 or 25.

After suffering her first professional defeat against Cameron at 3Arena last month, Taylor, the undisputed World lightweight champion, is expected to activate the rematch clause in their fight contract.

Initial speculation, mostly fueled by Hearn, suggested that Cameron might slim down to compete against Taylor in the 135lb lightweight division. This would provide her with an opportunity to become an undisputed and undefeated two-weight World champion.

However, it appears that the rematch will once again take place in the super-lightweight category, as Cameron currently holds the undisputed 140lb world champion title.

Speaking in New York, Hearn said: “Katie has said she is going to exercise that rematch clause against Chantel Cameron. We’ll plan that fight for November time.”

Taylor, who will celebrate her 37th birthday on July 2, faces a formidable challenge in the rematch. Although the May Homecoming encounter was closely contested, there was no doubt that Cameron (32) earned her victory.

The judges’ scorecards, with two officials scoring the contest 96-94 in favor of the Northampton fighter and the third scoring it a draw (95-95), arguably didn’t fully reflect Cameron’s dominance.

While Taylor did display more accuracy in her punches, the sheer volume of punches landed by Cameron could not be underestimated.

Taylor did not attend the post-fight press conference and has only given a brief TV interview since then. Her exact plan to avenge the defeat remains a mystery, given Cameron’s ability to restrict her movement in the ring.

Interestingly, Hearn revealed that he had tried to persuade Taylor to consider other opponents for her next fight, including Amanda Serrano. Nevertheless, the Bray boxer is determined to secure another chance against Cameron.

“It’s gonna be a huge fight. There was no talking Katie Taylor into any other fight. All she wanted was a chance to rematch Chantelle Cameron. Chantelle Cameron will come into that fight as the ‘A’ side, as the favourite as well, and it’ll be a massive night,” said Hearn.
