Mona McSharry collects gold, silver, and bronze at Mare Nostrum

Irish record holder Mona McSharry has collected a gold, silver, and bronze medal each at the Canet-en-Roussillon stop of the Mare Nostrum Swim Tour.

The 22-year-old, who competed in the Tokyo Olympics, broke her own national 100m breaststroke record this April in 1:06.04, ranking her 5th in the world for this season.

She won a gold yesterday (May 13) in that same event in 1:06.54. Argentina’s Macarena Caballos took silver in 1:07.68 and Japan’s Reona Aoki took third with 1:07.72.

This morning (May 14) McSharry, who studies at the University of Tennessee, claimed bronze in the 50m breaststroke in 30.71 seconds, behind South African Lara van Niekirk (30.37) and Great Britain’s Imogen Clark (30.39).

In the very same session McSharry won silver in the 200m breaststroke in 2:26.44, just a hair more than a second over her national record, 2:25.08.
