Ireland women’s 7s are still in the race for automatic Olympic qualification, but it will all come down to the 5th-place semi-final against Fiji tomorrow morning (May 14) in the final day of the HSBC France 7s.
2023 World Series champions New Zealand, the USA, Australia, and hosts France have already booked slots in next year’s Paris Olympics, but the final automatically-qualifying place will depend on the results of tomorrow’s game.
Ireland (64 points) is competing with Fiji (62) for the final slot. In order to secure it, they just need to win against Fiji tomorrow (8am Irish time).
If Ireland beat Fiji they qualify on tournament points
If Fiji beat Ireland the best Ireland can hope is they finish on level tournament points, but Fiji's points difference will be enough.

On Friday Ireland defeated France 27-7, thanks to tries apiece from Lucy Mulhall and Megan Burns and three from Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe, but was defeated 33-12 by Australia later that day.
Ireland stayed in the running today with a 36-7 defeat of Brazil, but France’s victory over Australia meant a third-place finish in pool B. Paired with Australia in the quarter-final, Ireland was defeated 17-7, with Eve Higgins providing the only try.
