McCabe injured as Arsenal reach Champions League Semi-Final

Republic of Ireland captain Katie McCabe limped off the pitch at the end of normal time last night, following Arsenal’s win over Bayern Munich.

The Republic of Ireland will make their World Cup debut on July 20th when they face co-hosts Australia, and the sight of their captain on crutches and in a protective boot has caused concern amongst fans.

Republic of Ireland manager Vera Pauw will also be concerned as the squad are set to play a series of international friendlies early next month with the teams to be announced on Friday.

McCabe still managed to celebrate with teammates despite her injury after the Arsenal squad overturned a first leg deficit to overcome the German side 2-1 on aggregate.

Arsenal’s manager Jonas Eidevall said McCabe will undergo a scan on Thursday and the extent of her injury can be known thereafter.

Prior to her injury, McCabe had been hugely influential for the Gunners, putting on an amazing performance at left back throughout the crucial game. The 27-year-old set up the winning goal with a perfect cross in for Stina Blackstenius.

Frida Maanum’s sensational strike was the Arsenal sides other goal, which went viral on social media shortly after.

Arsenal boss Eidevall has now lead the Gunners to the final four and their first Champions League semi-final since 2013.
