Mona McSharry Sets New Irish Record in US

Grange native Mona McSharry set a new Irish record in the 50m breaststroke at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Tennessee.

She broke her own record of 30.87, and won gold, with a 30.56 time. Miranda Tucker took silver.

McSharry won two other golds at the meet: in the 200m breaststroke, which she finished in 2:26.34, nearly 4 seconds ahead of Alexis Yager, who took second; and in the 100m breaststroke, which she won in 1:06.80, again followed by Tucker.

The 22-year-old, who has trained with Marlins Swimming Club in Ballyshannon, is in her third year at the University of Tennessee. She is studying kinesiology.
