Amanda Serrano Confirms She Wants Rematch with Katie Taylor

Amanda Serrano has confirmed she wants a rematch with world lightweight champion Katie Taylor, although the Puerto Rican is scheduled for a fight against Mexico’s featherweight Erika Cruz in the meantime.

On Tuesday Nov. 1st the World Boxing Association ordered a unification title match between WBA featherweight champion Cruz and Serrano, who holds the other three belts at 126lbs. If Serrano wins — and Cruz would be the underdog — she will be the undisputed featherweight champion, which would advantage her in making a deal with Taylor, undisputed lightweight (135lbs) champion.

Taylor has called a rematch with Serrano in Croke Park her ‘dream fight’, saying she would even be willing to step back from competing for a few months to ensure its going forward.

“We want the fight at Croke Park, 80,000 people…it will be the biggest event in women’s boxing history.”

Serrano has also been enthusiastic on Twitter:

Taylor won her last match with Serrano by split decision. The event was the first time two women headlined a boxing event at the historic Madison Square Garden venue in New York.
