Why Germany, Belgium & Spain Men’s Team Are Wearing Their Women’s Team Kit

Germany, Belgium and Spain Men’s Team will wear their Women’s Team Kits during their respective League Nations matches this month.

Germany, Belgium and Spain Men’s National Team will wear their Women’s National Team Kit in their clashes in the Nations League to show support and solidarity ahead of this summers women’s European Championship.

Adidas, who are the supplier to Germany, Belgium and Spain, have pushed this campaign.

This sign of solidarity comes after the German women’s team wore the black away shirts of the men’s team last summer against Chile on the same day the men made their first appearance in the Euro 2020 campaign against France.

Germany’s women’s team heads into this summer’s Euros among the favourites to take home the title. Manuel Neuer, captain of the men’s team said, “There are two absolute highlights in football this year: the World Cup in Qatar and the European Championship in England this summer.”  “We’re all looking forward to these tournaments in Germany.”

“Back then we were very happy about the support of the women’s national team. Now it’s our turn. We believe in Alex Popp’s team.”

Germany’s official football Twitter account tweeted an image featuring Bayern Munich stars Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry alongside Chelsea’s Kai Havertz, wearing the female kit design alongside players from the women’s team.

The caption reads; “That’s what to wear this summer”.

Speaking about the move, which celebrates the evolution of Belgian women’s football, Manu Leroy, Director of marketing and communications said: “It is the perfect opportunity for our Red Devils to show their support for our Flames in the run-up to the European Championship. The campaign will stir up the enthusiasm of our supporters for the European Championship and will give our women an extra push to surpass themselves.”
