Rhasidat Adeleke Breaks 60M Irish Record At NCAA Championships

Rhasidat Adeleke broke the Irish 60m indoor record at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Alabama on Friday night.

Rhasidat Adeleke has broken the Irish indoor 60M record with a  new time of 7.17 seconds, which she clocked at the NCAA Championships in  Alabama. Currently on scholarship at the University of Texas, Adeleke has qualified for the sprint final – making her the first ever  Irish athlete to ever qualify for an NCAA Division 1 indoor sprint final.

The 60m indoor Irish record has been hotly contested over the last six weeks with Molly Scott and Rhasidat Adeleke lowering the standard from 7.27 to now 7.17.

Adeleke’s time better’s the mark set by Molly Scott at the end of February where she ran 7.19 to win the National Indoor Senior Championships. Scott will race at the World Indoor Championships this coming week.

Adeleke’s time moves her up to 26 in the World Rankings – the second youngest athlete in the top 26. She will race in the 60M and 200M final tonight after running 23.06 in the 200M to qualify for the final.
