Ireland’s final Women’s Six Nations game against France has been called-off due to an outbreak of Covid-19 in the French camp.
It is understood that several members of France’s backroom staff, led by head coach Annick Hayraud, have tested positive for Covid-19. With England being crowned as Six Nations champions last weekend, the fixture would have decided the runners up of the tournament.
Originally, Ireland vs France was due to be played in Stadium Lille Metropole. This changed as France agreed to travel to Donnybrook instead to avoid the Irish players having to quarantine for 14 days on their return home. This would be the case as Ireland’s players are amateurs as opposed to professional athletes.
The IRFU stated it would not be possible for many of the squad to commit to isolating due to responsibilities to their families and employers.
However, with Sunday’s match now postponed, tournament organisers hope the tie can be rescheduled for next month.

Ireland defeated Italy 21-7 last weekend at Energia Park. Three tries from Lindsay Peat, Claire Molloy and a penalty try late in the second half was enough to turn the match for the home team.
